SESSION #1 - Rodney Murray

SESSION #1 - Rodney Murray

$25.00 - $75.00
DATES: JUNE 3-5, 2026 | 6:00 - 8:00 PM

Body as Condition is a three-day workshop that looks at how our entire psychophysical system is a condition for change. Using dance as a container for our experience, we start by noticing how our thinking, awareness, and sensation are already choreographing us. Testing our assumptions and moving past habits, we begin to discover how we organize and use our whole self in our dancing.

This workshop develops a process for change. Through a deepened sensory awareness, physical exploration, and noticing of gravity and the ground reaction force, we learn how to become our own teachers—able to notice patterns, make new decisions, and stay responsive and curious as conditions shift.

Rodney Murray is a multidisciplinary artist based in Philadelphia, PA. He holds a BFA in Directing, Playwriting, and Production from the University of the Arts.

Fusing a poetic approach to language with rigorous embodied practices, Rodney’s work disrupts traditional divisions between artistic mediums, while engaging a discursive and embodied framework for understanding how the 21st century body is writing, moving, and thinking.

His solo work has been presented in both Philadelphia and New York City, at the University of the Arts, The Painted Bride Arts Center, KYL/D, and Dixon Place. In addition to his solo work, he has performed in works created by Paul Taylor, Stephen Petronio, and Paul Matteson.

In 2022, he was named a Future Art Writer by Mozaik Philanthropy, and his essay,The Circle of Life: Sacred Geometries and Other Forms, was published in conjunction with their Ecosystem X online exhibition. His writing has also appeared abroad in Dance Art Journal, and locally in Poet’s Row inaugural issue.

He is currently enrolled in the 1600-hour Alexander Technique Teacher Training Program at the Balance Arts Center in New York City.
